Surviving the Rosenthals
Following his debut musical America's Breath of Fresh Air, songwriter Arnie Roman's sophomore show, Surviving the Rosenthals, debuted at the New York Theater Festival's Spring/Summerfest 2022. As producer, Jesica envisioned the stage as the "brave space," a place where people feel safe enough - but also bold enough - to tackle the heavy topics of this musical drama.
Alice! An Original Musical
Jesica's vision for community theater involved integrating adults and children into a single ensemble. While multi-generational theater is certainly not novel, Jesica found that few scripts are written with a large cast of both adults and children in mind. The show she most expected to be available - Alice in Wonderland - was either given in a purely child-oriented form or was 'aged up' for mature audiences. Undeterred, Jesica partnered with a local rock band to produce their own original approach, Alice! An Original Musical, in 2019.
Narnia
Narnia, a musical by Jules Tasca, Thomas Tierney, and Ted Drachan, brings to live the beloved novel The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. Jesica immediately saw the possibilities for a multigenerational community theater to stage this classic story, integrating child and adult performers, dancers, musicians, and some of the most exceptional costuming and make-up in community theater.
Virtual Happy Hour
As the lights of Broadway dimmed during the extended COVID-19 pandemic, Jesica went remote with Virtual Happy Hour, a one-act musical that aired as part of the Theatre Resources Unlimited 2020 online gala. Virtual Happy Hour was produced entirely remotely, with Jesica in her home directing their actors in their homes.
Stroll Haunted Yarmouth
Before it had a permanent home, Yarmouth's Royal River Community Players had to look for novel ways to incorporate theater into the everyday lives of Yarmouth residents, businesses, and visitors. Stroll Haunted Yarmouth, created in 2018 and now an ongoing event every October, brought to life the town's past. The show incorporates real historical details into the narratives of its fictional characters. Jesica helped conceive Stroll Haunted Yarmouth and was its first director.
